Crooked Lake Triathlon


9 members of the Northwest Triathlon Club (NWTC) made the journey up to Newry for the 750 m lake swim, 20km bike, 5km run. Paul Mc Cafferty led the Northwest athletes’ home with a time of 1:05:37, and in the process winning the 40-44 category. Jarlath Fearon was joint 3rd in the same category with a time of 1:08:00. Aileen Morrison was third woman home overall, and second in the 25-29 category with a personal best time of 1:07:56. Patrick Mc Laughlin welcomed the high temperatures for his preparation for Ironman France in 2 weeks time, and recorded a time of 1:09:08. Frankie Dunlop had a solid race to stop the clock in 1:09:43, with Paul Mc Connellogue coming in next in 1:10:15.

Joe Mc Laughlin from Fermanagh was the club athlete home in a time of 1:23:25. Danny Mc Monagle made a welcome return to triathlon by setting a time of 1:26:43. Colm Quigley experienced mechanical problems with his bike which forced him to retire from the race, and therefore had to buy the ice creams on the way home. Local athlete Eamon Colhoun from Triangle club also had a fantastic race to finish 20th overall and win the junior title.
