Liam Ball Triathlon

Colm Quigley stamped his authority on the race during the bike section, setting the fastest bike split of the day by over 2minutes, to lead the race home in a time of 1:39:46. Local up and coming talent Eamon Colhoun from Triangle was next home to take second place overall and the Junior title in 1:42:15, ahead of Olympian Eamon Hill (1:44:53).
Paul Mc Cafferty was the next club member home to take 6th position in a time of 1:46:45, despite struggling with a chest infection for the last few weeks.
Jarlaith Fearon out piped training partner Frankie Dunlop yet again in the veteran section to finish in 8th position in 1:52:15. Frankie was 10th in 1:54:33.
Aileen Morrison dominated the women’s race, finishing in 9th position overall, 16 minutes ahead of next female athlete, in a personal best time of 1:53:55.

Elsewhere in the race, Patrick Mc Laughlin finished 11th in a pb time of 1:56:04. Darren Deehan and Joe Doherty crossed the line together in their first Liam Ball in 2:05:56. Terry Donnelly, who has taken part in all 22 Liam Ball triathlons finished fittingly in 22nd position overall in 2:10:32.
Despite being dosed with flu Sha Martin battled his way through the race in 2:18:35.
Stephen Marner stopped the clock in 2:24:06. Miriam Mc Fadden just piped Aoife Logan in the run to finish in 2:24:16. Aoife finishing in a time of 2:25:26 in her first race over the distance.

In the recreational section of the race, Peter Mc Laughlin had a solid race to finish in 2:06. Packy Deehan came home in 2:17. Roisin Lynch was also racing, and it was good to see the return of Dermot Frazer to the triathlon scene.

Colm Quigley and Aileen Morrison also took the awards of first local male and female home. While Jarlaith Fearon and Miriam Mc Fadden took the veteran male and female awards.
Roisin Lynch also received a special award for introducing numerous young people to the sport of triathlon through her work as a PE teacher.

Gerry Mc Dermot was awarded the “Face of Northwest Triathlon Club” award seeing as he never took part in the race but still managed to get his mug in the Derry Journal twice! Well done Gerry!!
