Ulster Sprint Championship

Junior Heffernan, and Claire Connor won the race overall, with times of 1:00:26 and 1:07:35 respectively. NWTC’s Colm Quigley was 2nd overall and won the Elite category in a time of 1:02:16. Aileen Morrison finished 2nd female overall, and won the 20-24 section in 1:08:30. Jarlath Fearon won the 40-44 section in a time of 1:09:42. Paul Mc Connellogue took silver in this category, finishing 20 seconds behind Jarlath. Frankie Dunlop took silver in the 45-49 section in 1:10:18.

Elsewhere in the race, Patrick Mc Laughlin finished 24th overall in 1:11:52. Letterkenny’s Frank Roche had a good race to finish in 1:16:03. Joe Doherty posted a 1:21:53 split for his race, while Fermanagh’s Joe Mc Laughlin managed to cut two minutes off his time in two weeks to finish in 1:22:45. Shawn Barron and Packy Deehan still managed to post 1:23:11, and 1:25:23 despite both running marathons in the last few weeks. Trisha Jordan from Letterkenny managed to squeeze into the top 100, by finishing 99th in a time of 1:28:33. While Liza Jane Jorque posted a time of 1:37:06. Darren Deehan, Aoife Logan and Stephen Marner, who were all taking part in their first triathlons set times of 1:22:10, 1:30:17 and 1:31:08 respectively.

Upcoming events
A large group of club members will be back in action again this weekend for the Liam Ball triathlon which takes place in the Templemore Sports Complex in Derry on Saturday 26th. Hopefully the weather conditions will be a bit more favourable than for recent races, for the 1200m swim, 32km bike and 8km run.

The Crooked Lake triathlon will be held in Camlough, Newry on Saturday 9th June, and the Irish Sprint Championships will be held in Mullaghmore the following weekend.

Club swim training sessions continue every Thursday night at the Templemore Sports complex at 6pm. Sea swimming training will commence at Ned’s Point in Buncrana at 7pm on Tuesday 29th. New members welcome.
