Triathlon Chonamara, Co. Gaillimh (25-07-09)

Colm Quigley was the first club member out of the water in under 20 minutes.  Quigley posted a quick bike split over the undulating course chasing race Leader Pat Tuohy of Sligo.  On the run Tuohy pulled further ahead but Quigley put in a spirited 10km to finish the race in 2nd place on 2hrs 15mins 58secs.  He also took 2nd prize in the M35-39 age category.   Paul McConnellogue wasn’t too far off the pace coming out of the water and on the bike he also produced a fast time.  A strong run over the 10km saw McConnellogue win the M40 – 44 age category in a time of 2hrs 18mins 31secs.  Frank Roche was no stranger to this race having competed here over the past few years.  An ever improving swim from Roche together with a strong cycle and run legs was good enough for a personal best course time of 2hrs 48mins 21secs.  Aoife Logan also produced a personal best coming home under the 3hour mark in a time of 2hrs 57mins 38secs.  This was good enough for 3rd place prize in the F30-34 age category.

Meanwhile a number of club members raced at the final 5km of the Furey Insurance 5km Series at Ballineska last Wednesday night.  James Beattie led the way for the club running 18mins 16secs with Brendan Doherty hot on his heals with an 18.26.  Jarlath Fearon wasn’t far behind in 18.32 while Paul McConnellogue put in another strong run of 18.52.  Roisin Lynch came home in 24.07 and she also took 2nd prize in the overall female vets category while Aoife Logan posted a 24.49.

Next up for the club is the Moune Triathlon held in Castlewellan followed two weeks later by Lough Neagh Triathlon in Ballyronan.
